MISSION + IMPACT
PROJECT YBEAM (Youth Broadband Education and Awareness Mentoring) provides comprehensive media training to Maui County youth through mobile journalism free of charge, including field training, digital media literacy education, advanced workshops, and real-world professional development and mentoring. Youth will develop 21st century workforce skills including video production and media literacy, strengthen community engagement, and foster proactive citizenship.
FOSTERING A POSITIVE CHANGE IN MAUI YOUTH:
-Increased digital and media literacy
-Engage with the community and issues of local concern
-Complete complex, multi- dimensional video assignments
Upon completing the program YBEAM alumni are eligible for continued mentoring and paid internship assignments as a part of the Akaku Youth Media Exchange (AYME) program.
-Broadcasting student- produced stories about nonprofit groups and events.
-Important community issues and topics are given a voice
-Maui County residents can be informed about businesses, organizations, and current news in the community
Project YBEAM is made possible through a grant as a part of Zero Divide\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\’s “Generation ZD Digital Literacy Program.” This program specifically targets low-income, minority, disabled, and otherwise underserved youth between the ages of 5-25, who have limited or no access to digital and information technology in the home.
